Revised Blog #1

“If I don’t want to move from this spot, I don’t have to!” This remark was not in the average American’s vocabulary in the 1950’s however now this is a saying that can be reiterated numerous times throughout the day, and in any household throughout the United States. Thanks to the World Wide Web we are now able to sit on our couch, literally all day long, and still have our errands run. Online shopping has become a staple in how Americans can purchase clothing. Though in recent years this has expanded to grocery shopping, movie rentals, even finding a boyfriend doesn’t need actual human contact anymore.

The multitude of power we’ve been given by a click of a mouse is a tad overpowering. The idea was a well thought out one of coarse, because our society is banking on less work more pleasure. The convenience if you are a single mother of 3 and work a full time job could but substantial, but why would you not want to try on your clothing before you buy it, and have your ice-cream minutes after you purchase it. Pure and astonishing laziness is the only outcome I can see.
However, the multitude of online shopping has continuously to increased over time.Although there are some like me, who don’t find this power fulfilling, most do see the positive side. At times you can find a product for a cheaper price than in the store, and if you are lucky enough to receive free shipping, then you’ve definitely gotten a better deal, and never left your couch. With the addition of Cyber Monday to the black Friday extravaganza online shopping has only gotten a bigger boost than in the past.

I feel that our economy is struggling because of this power. A great part of the American workforce is in the retail industry, and if we are all sitting on our couches instead of browsing through aisles at the stores, those jobs will eventually diminish completely. It has been said that those who are trying to be environmental friendly are partaking in the online shopping world because they feel that the less they get in their car, the less emissions are let out around the country. However these people are incorrect, the only way this would be beneficial is if 25 orders were delivered at the same time. The emissions let out by huge diesel trucks is more than the consumers’ vehicle driving to a store.

One huge upset with online shopping is how simple you are able to become a victim of fraud. You can buy on eBay and use pay pal, which says to be a guarantee to give you your money back if you are stood up. However, they don’t tell you that if you are sent unusable goods, or something insufficient of what you ordered they would not pay you back. The only way you are reimbursed is if you receive absolutely nothing. On top of that the Internet is swarming with scammers and virus’s, if you are constantly putting in your credit card information, there is a high chance that it will be stolen.

Online shopping’s risks outweigh the benefits in my house. I want to be able to go Christmas shopping with my family, and pick out my DVD’s in person, feel the apples for bruises and meet the person I am choosing to date face to face. The economy may have a sudden burst if online shopping came to an end, but who am I to know. I just know that sometimes the technology advances in our society are the reasons we America has the reputation of the laziest people in the world.

TiVo Take over

The fact that this story was written over fifty years ago is mind blowing. Bradbury’s idea’s and metaphors to the world he saw us turning into are almost all right. The idea that our world will be dominated by television, and books would be taking a backburner is correct. His story is somewhat farfetched talking about how television will completely dismiss the need for books. The world will come to a place where we are not considered illiterate but we are not thinking for ourselves. The human population will just be told how to think and act, we will not be creating our own perception of the world, people and nature. People will watch television and the ideas and information the television gives us will be as far as our minds may go.

The Internet I feel has destroyed our ability to hear one person’s full opinion on any subject. With reading a book we are forced to listen and illustrate one authors ideas and really grasp one point of view. With the Internet we have the ability to dismay any sort of viable information we do not agree with. With the click of a mouse we are given the opportunity to look for the same information written in the way we want to hear it. However, to a certain extent the Internet has given us the means to learn information at a much greater magnitude. Our possibilities are endless with the Internet unlike a book that we only convey one person’s message.

Television may have taken on a whole new persona in the roles we play in our households. Many centers their entire day’s around a certain television series they feel directly relates to their life, or a life they’ve dreamed of. With the invention of TiVo This routine has been made possible for any American, whether they are a stay at home mother chasing four children around, or an extremely successful business man who only makes it home twice a week. This invention has been put into almost every home, and is now accessible through our Smartphones You can be at the office, and just a tap on your phone screen and your TiVo receiver at home will record whichever television show you desire. This is not the only downplay to television; I also feel that television has taken over our readers because many films are made after a book is written. If the book happens to become a best seller there will be no need to tell your friends to go out and look for this book merely because in as little as 6 months the book will be made into a film in theatres.

I do feel that technology has taken over the way we learn, especially for children. They learn their ABC’s through watching television shows like Sesame Street instead of their parents opening up a book and showing them the words on a page. I do not feel that this all is considered a bad thing however because our society has become more intelligent, we have not become mindless bodies who only believe what we are told. We have actually adapted to this new lifestyle and have become better people and more charismatic and thoughtful to new ideas. I do not feel our society will ever lead to the burning of books. Even with the new digital books like the Amazon Kindle taking over the way we read will not ever lead to a nationwide extinction of the flimsy paperbacks we all know and love. The United States is too overbearing about people’s feelings and our rights as American’s to take our possessions out of our homes and burn them. No matter how technologically advanced our society becomes books will always be a part of our lives, whether on a file, or on our selves at home.

Spongey Scholars

Coming into the world we don’t know the reason behind anything. The baby cries “my belly hurts.” The baby has no idea why their belly hurts, just that when their mom gives them that plastic looking thing they feel better. If we grew up as clueless as we started out our world would be a whole mess of people throwing rocks and running around naked! Now this is a little extravagant but it all relates back to teaching reasoning skills to our young scholars.

In Kindergarten we are taught letters and numbers, although at the time we don’t realize we are being taught reasoning skills we are. “Why are we learning these letters?” Because, we will turn them into words, and then sentences, and then essays and speeches! This valuable skill that we all take for granted is crucial for the expansion of knowledge, and is 100% required in primary school. Children’s brains are like little sponges, they want to know everything and if you’ve ever been around a child normally their favorite question is why?

This is primarily because even before elementary school mothers and fathers are teaching their children reasoning skills. Making choices for a 2nd grader is more thought out than one might perceive. They can look at a two cookies and know they want the larger one, because they want to eat more sweets. This response is the early stages. However when adolescents become teens they are faced with many more decisions that they need to be ready for. Decision Making. For example, choosing to take drugs, career paths, and cheating on a test. If we waited to teach our children to weigh the outcomes and see the potential consequences until teenage years we may be too late.

The teachers in our school systems today are pressured to maintain inventiveness and creativity in their lessons to constantly be challenging their students. Creativity ideas It is not just reading, math and science anymore, it is now using these age-old studies and making them into ideas capable of learning reasoning. However, even with the best teachers and most in-depth lessons some children are influenced elsewhere, such as cognitive, psychological, social, cultural, and societal factors. We need to just break the barrier, although children may be taught something different at home than in their classroom it does not mean the teacher is right and the parent is wrong, and vice-versa. Our society is depending on these little sponges asking why. We are striving for all children to grow up and be able to weigh the outcomes of a choice they are making. Or research to know the truth behind a topic. Children are innocent and eager to know and learn, so primary school is the perfect chance we have to steer them in the right direction. With the guidance in schools as well as at home there is no way a child will grow up without the skills he needs to achieve goals and excel in life.

Just another day

This past weekend we got the chance to go back home to Vegas and visit all our family!  We went to a going away for our friend Devin Ingram who deploys to Afghanistan sometime in the next 2 weeks! :( So that was ALOT of fun but a tad depressing at the same time. Tony, Devin, Joe and Alvie all went up to Brianhead Utah to go downhill mountain biking and have some "bromance" time together! They had a blast except Alvie got some gnarly bruises and abbrasians ALL over his body, even his face :( ! So putting the alcohol on those cuts was kinda hilarious/ kinda sad because he was holding back screaming at me haha.  Joe got some good cuts on his bum and of coarse Devin and Tony ( who were wearing so much protective gear it's ridiculous) didn't get a SCRATCH!  ( they think their just bad asses ha)

While the boys were off doing their thing Stella and I were making our rounds around Vegas visiting as many people as we could! We got to see Grandad, Grammie, Great Grandma Rust, and Great Papa Rocco! Everyone just eats up how adoreable stella is and it just makes me laugh. She's dang cute but a little destructive monster at times!

We visited Tracy and Alecia and Stella got to play with Hunter and Kaiden! They're SOOOO Cute, but none can get around quite as well as Stella yet. We had to ward off Stella from jumping and smacking the boys but overall it was a success!

When Tony got back we went to eat with my family at Bucca di BePo for my Aunt Cheri's birthday party! My cousin Kelly was in town from Virginia to party at the strip so it was a delight to have her there as well. It was a fun filled even that actually had ZERO drama. Which is NOT typical so it was amazing :)

Logan had a blast with Stella and she just adores him! I wish we could be around all my family more because I miss them, but it was nice to get home to our cooler climate!

Stella is 6 months old already!

This past weekend we took a little trip to Las Vegas to visit our friends and family and while we were there Heather T. Photography decided to take Stella's 6 month pictures!!

We dressed her in pearls and of coarse GLITTER PINK tennies :)  She was a little goober about smiling but she still took some adorable "serious" photos.  Overall I would say it was a complete success!

We have FINALLY arrived

We finally made it. We are now in Prescott Valley Arizona. The weather is much different to the cold nights in San Diego but much to my surprise the weather is honestly wonderful here. It's not as hot as Las Vegas but much warmer than San Diego. The elevation is at about 5300 feet so the air just seems cleaner and more crisp. Neither Tony or I have ever lived in this small of a place so we're both anxious to see how it's going to go. Tony went to his first day at Guidance Helicopter Pilot School this morning and is just so giddy with excitement. It makes me so happy to finally see him smiling again.
Stella is crawling like a maniac and is making it hard on me to get my schoolwork done, but thankfully Tony won't have to be finding a job so we're both going to get quality time together and with Stella while we're attending school.
Oh yes! About our new home; It is about 1600sq feet (2x our old apartment) Has a enormous kitchen and living room and even enough space for me to have my desk up! The place has a guest house in the back that is even 2 bedrooms with a living room, kitchen and bathroom. This means whenever you want to come visit us you're more than welcome!  The fishing and hiking here is amazing from what I've heard so were anxious to hit the trails.
